A 1930s walk-up apartment, taken back to the structure internally and rebuilt in the same sequence as our first project: layout and services first, finish afterwards.

The main living floor was opened up into a single continuous space, with a herringbone floor running its full depth and a built-in fireplace set into a cleanly plastered wall. The kitchen is handleless in white; the bathroom is the deliberate contrast, in deep green herringbone tile with a freestanding bath and brass fittings.

Our first project, an existing home taken on in full, including an extension on the garden side. The ground floor was opened up to the garden with three sets of French doors, bringing light across the full width of the living space.

Alongside the building work, the project involved the permit process and coordination with the owners’ association, the VvE. On this type of property the VvE often sets the pace, which is why we handle those conversations ourselves rather than delegating them.
